C12: Drowning

🟣Drowning 🟣🍃 Drowning is the most common cause of mechanical asphyxia.

🍃Foam in the nose is a classic sign of drowning.

🍃Fresh water cause:

- hemolysis if RBCs- ⬆️K. -⬇️Na-Alter Electrolyte activate leading to Ventricular fibrillation - ⬆️BV by 50% in 1st minute - Acute cardiac failure may result due to relative anaemia and myocardial hypoxia

🍃Salt water cause:- fluid will be drown from blood to lung lead to pulmonary edema- No hemolysis

🍃Deaths in fresh water take about 4-5 min.

🍃Deaths in seawater take about 8-12 min.

🍃Wet drowning is the common type

🍃External Sure signs of drowning:- Foam froth. - Cadaveric spasm

🍃Washer woman hand takes 24hours contact with water to occur.

🍃Peeling of epidermis: 1-2 weeks after submersion.

🍃cooling under water is twice (8 hours) as rapid as inthe air (16 hours).

🍃 Hypostasis is seen in upper half of body

🍃 Adipocere: starts after 3week & complete after 6 month.

🍃 Floatation occurs after 3-7 days in summer &7-10 days in winter.

🍃 Wrinkling of skin began after 12 hours & complete after 24 hours.

🍃Putrefaction starts immediately after extraction from water.

🍃 Planktons and diatoms:- enter all organs except the spleen which is contracted - enter long bone so can be estimated in BM microscopic examination

💗GR:

🍃Delayed death in drowning.

✨due to bronchopneumonia.

🍃Foam froth formation in drowning.

✨ It is formed due to mixture of air, water and mucus during attempts of forcible respiration during drowning.

🍃Goose skin indrowning.

✨ due to rigor mortis of erector pilae muscles.

🍃Peeling of skin in drowning.

✨ due to putrefactive gases collected under the skin

🍃 spleen is contracted and pale

✨due to stress &subsequent increased production of epinephrine.

🍃Floating is earlier in female body

✨due to fat & light bone

🍃Floating is earlier in children.

✨due to light bones.
