๐ฃ 1. General Anatomy
๐ The Midbrain = part of the brainstem between the pons and diencephalon.
๐ Divided by the Cerebral Aqueduct of Sylvius into:
- Tectum (dorsal) โ lies above the aqueduct.
- Cerebral Peduncle (ventral) โ below the aqueduct.
๐ 2. Main Parts of the Midbrain
๐ A. Tectum (Dorsal Part):
- Contains 4 Colliculi โ 2 Superior + 2 Inferior (Corpora Quadrigemina).
- Centers for visual and auditory reflexes.
๐ B. Cerebral Peduncle (Ventral Part): subdivided into:
- Crus Cerebri (Basis Pedunculi):
- Contains descending tracts:
- Corticospinal (middle 3/5)
